"To be hanged till death" thats what the high court said after 11 years
"i always knew he did it ,my daughter was murdered brutelly and 11 years hence whatever the courts verdict is ,I ACCEPT IT"thats what a 70+ year old man said after the verdict, speaking from jammu(he was not present in court at the time of the verdict)
priyadarshini was raped and killed by santosh singh in 1996.a case which nobody was ready to hear,our judiciary system can make a person fighting for justice look so helpless. As a schoolboy i used to read everyday in the newspaper about the case , every1 knew who did it, so did the judge but he comes out with the verdict saying" i know that he is the murderer(santosh singh) but i aqquit him on basis of lack of evidence"
,you feel like laughing but you cant, you feel like crying but you cant,
you feel like helping but you cant( or dont knw how to),you feel like shooting(the guilty) but you cant,you feel like ...........it was (and is in so many cases still) a feeling within so many of us who were feeling ashamed of the fact that we belong here.
jessica verdict i think was the saturation point.an outburst i had thought just stays till RDB in india.It was an outcry led by the public(oh it had a voice also i realized) .the media who did a good job , also saw it as a great opportunity and cashed in, as they are in major content crises(so its understandable), but all due credit to them spec ndtv who should be applauded for helping the old man get justice for her daughter(actually a little reconciliation not total justice,not after 11 years)...the rally at india gate is a memory that will stay with me all my life .today after the verdict by the high court ,this case has opened my eyes that if you fight for justice you will get it and along with it it will give you a new strength and a lot of pride.I am proud that i was part of this campaign(even if not in the end as i came abroad for my masters) and thanks every1 especially the whole forefronters for at least giving this little glimse of light , a hope that yes things might be changing here,it might not take a priyadarshini 11 years for justice,it might not be that a manu sharma could kill a jessica lal in front of 100 people and no one saw it,there might not be a hindu muslim riot because some f****** insane guy blew up a bomb.It might be that we are CHANGING.......just might be.
It has been a long and an stressfull fight against the system ,its just made us reallise that we are the system and we have to work more towards making the system where a jessica,priyadarshini or nitish and thousands of other cases noticed or un noticed never happen.... . god bless you and our nation..Lets hope this wont stop here and we would not be blogging the same thing again after 11 years.....love you guys pranay .
